3 Manifesting Myths (and What Actually Works)

The popular understanding of manifesting misses the most important piece: subconscious programming. Here are three myths — and the formula that actually works.

3 Manifesting Myths (and What Actually Works)

I want to debunk a few widespread myths about manifesting.

Myth 1: "All I need to do is visualize and act as if I already have it, and my goal will come to me."

The popular understanding of manifesting (made famous by books like The Secret) suggests that all you need to do is get clear on what you want, think, act, and feel as though it is already yours (to match the energetic frequency of your goal), and then let the universe deliver it.

But if it were that simple, why do some people manifest goals effortlessly while others fail, despite using the exact same technique?

It all comes down to subconscious programming.

Some people's subconscious minds are programmed to support their goals, while other people's subconscious minds actively block them.

It also depends on the specific goal. One person's subconscious might be perfectly aligned for business success, but completely misaligned for success in romantic relationships.

And traditional manifesting techniques simply don't touch this subconscious programming.

In Mind Shifting, our core manifesting tool is the Reality Shifting method. When developing this, I knew it had to clear these subconscious blocks in order to work consistently for everyone.

Reality Shifting is designed to do two things. It enables you to feel and think as if your goal has arrived, while actively identifying and clearing the subconscious barriers in the way.

These subconscious barriers might include:

  • Stuck identities: "I'm not the kind of person who can achieve this."
  • Limiting beliefs: "I'm not good enough" or "I can't do it."
  • Fears: "I'm scared to take action" or "I'm scared of success."

Without addressing these, internal resistance will continue to block your success, no matter how consistently you practice traditional manifesting techniques.

Myth 2: "I'm using a manifesting technique, so I don't need to take action."

To clear this one up, let's run a quick thought experiment.

Imagine two people who are identical in every way (let's call them clones!). They are both trying to manifest their perfect romantic relationship:

  • Person A stays at home every day practicing a manifesting technique, waiting for their partner to show up but does nothing to make this more likely to happen.
  • Person B does the same manifesting technique, but also takes practical steps to make meeting someone more likely (socializing, joining clubs they are interested in, using dating apps, actually leaving the house!).

Who is more likely to find the relationship they are looking for?

Now imagine two identical entrepreneurs with equal talent, knowledge and resources.

  • Person A sits at their desk using a manifesting technique without doing any work.
  • Person B does the manifesting technique while also taking the actual steps needed to grow their business.

I hope it's clear that in both examples Person B is far more likely to manifest what they want!

What these examples show us is that action is a necessary component of manifesting.

But what about the opposite scenario: taking action without manifestation?

Myth 3: "Manifesting doesn't work; I just need to take action."

Let's return to our example of two identical people trying to meet a partner. This time, both Person A and Person B take identical practical actions that make meeting someone more likely.

But in this example:

  • Person A carries the subconscious identity of being "unlovable", holds the core belief "I'm not worthy" and so deep down they don't actually believe that they will achieve their goal.
  • Person B used the Reality Shifting method to clear those same blocks and so now knows they are worthy and lovable and feels certain beyond a shadow of a doubt that their ideal relationship is coming to them.

Who is more likely to attract and build the relationship they are seeking?

Obviously Person B!

Because clearing subconscious blocks is a necessary component of manifesting, and so is the feeling that your goal will be achieved (the sole focus of traditional manifesting techniques).

The missing piece with those traditional techniques is that if you don't clear the subconscious blocks in the way it is impossible to maintain the frequency of certainty in your mental, emotional and energetic state that your goal is coming to you.

The Manifesting Formula That Actually Works

Successful manifestation has three essential components:

  1. Clear the Blocks: Identify and clear the subconscious obstacles blocking your goal, so you now feel it in your bones that your goal is coming to you.
  2. Clarify the Path: Get clear on the steps needed to reach your goal (only possible once you clear the subconscious programming blocking you).
  3. Walk the Path: Take effective action that leads you to your goal (only possible once you have clarified the path).

In Mind Shifting, you use the Reality Shifting method to clear subconscious barriers, apply our Integration Questions to clarify the path, and then you walk the path to your goal by taking action.

If you ever get stuck, feel resistance, or hit a wall, you simply return to the process: clear the newly surfaced blockage, clarify the path again, and keep walking.
